Diversion is a strategy that prevents homelessness for people seeking shelter by helping them identify immediate alternate housing arrangements and, if necessary, connecting them with services and financial assistance to help them return to permanent housing. Over the years, CwD has developed an effective diversion program. Utilizing a relationship-building approach, CwD staff and volunteers engage with individuals experiencing a crisis and work to build trust. Often, we can identify resources and strategies which can resolve a person’s housing instability or divert them from becoming homeless.

Staffing changes have enabled us to expand and deepen our work with the most vulnerable in our community. Lea Thullbery, who has been a key staff member since the beginning of CwD, is now City with Dwellings’ Assistant Director.

As Lea continues to lead this amazing work, two current staff members work with her in outreach and in diverting people from homelessness. Krista O’Connell is now CwD's Director of Guest Support, and Mark Dockery is now our Director of Outreach.
